The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the FAO led-Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (LEAP) are key partners of the Global Feed LCA Institute.

In April 2015 LEAP released the first of its kind globally recognized Feed LCA Guidelines. These guidelines represent a significant milestone for the global feed industry in order to enable consistent and transparent reporting of environmental performance. The GFLI will implement the FAO/LEAP methodology and has established a working relationship with the LEAP Steering Committee to ensure methodological compliance.

The FAO has a permanent seat on the GFLI management board with observer status and three delegates from LEAP from each of the LEAP constituencies (private sector, governments, NGOs) provide advice to the GFLI in order to ensure consistency with the LEAP methodology and report to the LEAP Steering Committee on the GFLI activities.
