GFLI to provide PED compliant datasets

GFLI to provide Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) compliant feed datasets in the context of the Environmental Footprint initiative launched by the European Commission

The Single Market for Green Products initiative of the European Commission aims at improving the availability of reliable information on the environmental performance of products. To this end the EC is promoting promote the use of a common methodology to assess and communicate the environmental performance of products. This methodology is called the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) Guide. It is an horizontal methodology applicable across all products types.

The EC is also encouraging stakeholders to develop product-specific rules aligned with the PEF Guide, the so-called Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs). The Feed PEFCR is currently being developed, alongside 23 others covering food and non-food products. To facilitate the implementation of the 24 PEFCRs under development, the EC decided to purchase PEF-compliant datasets through a tender procedure.

A technical consortium led by the GFLI was awarded the tender for the PEF-compliant feed datasets. This consortium is composed of Blonk Consultants, Wageningen University, Agroscope, Quantis and PRé consultants. Through this process the GFLI will deliver to the European Commission more than 1,500 datasets covering the major feed ingredients used in the EU, combined with different geographical origins.
