There are multiple options in regards to how to interact with GFLI branded data.
1a) To publish the lifecycle impact assessment (LCIA) data, this is the final outcome of the database and showcases the emission factors and impact categories through the two available impact assessment methods the GFLI upholds (ReCiPe Midpoint H (2016, EF3.1). On this level of aggregation, there is no risk of exposure of confidential data.
1b) in additional to option 1a, it is also possible to publish the lifecycle inventory/ system processes data. This is aggregated data applicable for software tools (i.e. Simapro, OpenLCA). This aggregated form shows more specifically where emissions are located, but it does not share facility/farm specific and confidential data.
2) the data remains unpublished, and you’ll receive a letter of confirmation from the GFLI stating which ingredients with which impact assessment figures are verified GFLI compliant. This document can be shared with your customers and supply chain for data sharing, without the need for it to be publicly available.
Please note that due to technical issues, we will not be able to include the GFLI branded data into the overall GFLI database until further notice.
Due to the current structure, the GFLI database cannot be easily add and remove datasets due to the manual labour attached at this point – meaning that it’ll not be financially feasible to have immediate updates. The timing of updates will be subject to the level of new datasets coming in, which will be mainly driven by sectoral and regional data-in projects.
The GFLI is developing an IT infrastructure to anticipate a more user-controlled data access, but on the short term this will not be available.
You are able to participate in the GFLI branded data if you’re not a member. GFLI membership is the most direct way you can support the institute provide reliable data and facilitate branded data. Members will receive discounts for the internal reviews. Priority in reviews are given to members and data providers for sectoral data-in projects.
The external reviewers shortlisted on the GFLI webpage here estimate the costs required for the external review based on the available data shared. The GFLI is not involved in the costs discussions with the applying company and the external reviewer. The applying company is responsible for all processes related to the external review, the GFLI only requires to receive the final documents, if the datasets have changed from prior to the review, and the review statement given by the external reviewer.
