GFLI and LCA.no are getting ready to launch the Data-in Generator (DIG) tool, a cloud-based solution for generating environmental data on marine ingredients. Launch is set for September 2026, with funding from FHF (The Norwegian Seafood Research Fund). It’s believed to be the first tool of its kind to comply with both GFLI standards and the EU’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology.
The idea is simple enough: put GFLI’s technical framework and LCA.no’s tooling experience behind the same product, so feed and seafood producers can generate their own environmental data without having to become LCA experts first. With the launch just weeks away, that idea is now close to becoming something producers can actually log into and use.
Facts · What is the DIG-tool?
The Data-in Generator (DIG) tool is a cloud-based solution that simplifies the collection and modelling of environmental data for marine ingredients. It’s built to comply with the EU PEF for marine fish products and the EU PEF for feed for food-producing animals, as well as GFLI’s own methodology, and produces data ready for GFLI database publication.
With these standards in check, the tool users are able to create their own product environmental footprints and validate it for branded data, use it to track changes in their emissions overtime and make hotspot analyses based on their own data, but they can also contribute to GFLI’s secondary and averaged data to improve sector-figures.

Discussions are ongoing to extent the tool’s scope towards all feed ingredients in scope (cultivation, feed specialty ingredients, processed plant-based and animal-based ingredients).
